Benzocyclobutene (BCB ) is polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon consisting of a combination of a benzene ring with a cyclobutane ring.

Use

BCB is often used for the production of photosensitive polymers. In microsystems technology BCB -based polymers are used as dielectrics; BCB has a relatively low permittivity εr 2.64 to 2.66. Other applications in this field include the use of the wafer bonding process for the production of optical connections or for intracortical neural implants. The thin films are typically applied by spin coating onto the substrates.
