Beovoz

The Belgrade suburban railway Beovoz ( Serbian Cyrillic Беовоз ) is next to the tram is the most important rail-based mass transportation in Belgrade. The Beovoz is operated by Serbian Railways (ZS ) and connects via a tunnel through the Belgrade city center from the railway station Prokop on the station Vukov spomenik the city center and the surrounding area.

Through the conversion took place in the Belgrade railway junction since 1971 elementary reconstruction of rail transport, the S -Bahn was built from the timetable of that ZTP Beograd 1991/1992 to the present four lines. At present ( 2012) is only a 45 - to 60 -minute intervals commanded the inside of the trunk route between stations Batajnica and Pančevo of the at peak times in 15 min. Clock train service of the BG: voz is added. A higher switching frequency to be achieved by 2015 through investment of 100 million euros from a loan from the EBRD in the expansion of urban rail infrastructure and initial purchase of 20 modern Elektromotorzuggarnituren.

Since the existing Beovoz relations in September 2010 on the inner-city trunk line from Pančevo to Novi Beograd one run by GSP Beograd inner-city commuter train called BG: VOZ went into operation, which was extended in April 2011 to Batajnica, was the Beovoz line network reduced by this inner-city relationship. The Beovoz It serves the external routes to the termini of the BG: voz Batajnica and Pančevo and Beograd Centar. The BG: VOZ runs from Monday to Friday at 15- minute intervals, on the weekend at least every hour.

Lines

System

The total of 330 km rail network of Beovoz light rail crosses the central urban area in two runs in the north-south direction tunnels ( Dedinje, 6,160 m long and Vračar, 3,504 m long). A third tunnel connects the used only for shunting station Makiš until now. Primary function is now the transport of passengers within the Belgrade railway junction. Since the lines of Beovoz only use the infrastructure of the new Belgrade railway junction, no connection to the old Central Station of Belgrade is given.

The four lines run on the routes Batajnica - Inđija, Beograd Centar - Mladenovac, Pančevo ( Vojilovica ) - Pančevo and Valjevo - Pančevo ( Vojilovica ) in up to 35 m deep tunnels under the city. With the unfinished Behelfsstation of the future main station Prokop and opened in 1996 the first urban underground station Vukov spomenik the Beovoz is also connected to the city center. Another important station is the station Novi Beograd, which the central interchange station of long distance and local transport is currently, since the meet two railway systems of the old and new central station.

The subsequent connection of Beovoz to the in the planning stages of Belgrade train or Metro will take place on the interchange stations Vukov Spomenik and Prokop. An expansion of the Beovoz to Surčin airport is now in the planning phase and will be set up on a new trek from Novi Beograd airport. In the system of Beovoz operate nine railcars compositions on four lines. Total daily 88 runs was carried out in 2008, for 2009, 91 are provided. At that time five lines in 2008 3.2 million people were transported.

The stations of the Central Line 1 of the BG: voz between Batanjnica and Pančevo are:

Clock supply

The Beovoz - trains currently only in 45-90 minute intervals. Had the driving clock during the years 1998/1999 min on average only 33. amount, the situation worsened in the following years due to lack of investment in the infrastructure of the rail and the failure of numerous railcar sets.

Ridership

The traffic performance in 2001 was 62 million pkm in 2007 at 99 million pkm. 2007 4.5 million passengers used the offer of Beovoz. 2008, only 3.25 million passengers were transported, which corresponds to 9,000 passengers per day. With a capacity of 20,000 passengers per day is feasible.

Used railcars

Since 1980 412/416er series were purchased by the then Zeleznice Jugoslavije for railway operations in Novi Sad, Belgrade, Skopje Titograd and railcars of the Latvian RVR EMC. From today 26 still roadworthy railcars of Serbian Railways 10 used exclusively for the operation of Beovoz, 9 railcars operate while the current schedule and serves as a reserve. The maintenance of the railcars carried in the securities account Zemun, the Remont is taken over by Zelvoz in Smederevo and Sinvoz in Zrenjanin.

Since the 11 to 27 -year-old trains today are technically in a poor condition and many units are no longer operational due to technical defects, damage during an operating cycle and aging, the investment in new railcar top priority and should initially during the year be settled in 2009.

2010 first new rail cars were delivered. These, however, were not used to improve the Beovoz traffic. Instead, these were for the newly introduced S-Bahn system BG: used VOZ that connects since September 1, 2010, the station Novi Beograd and Pančevo in a 30 -minute, at peak times at 15- minute intervals.

Tariff system

For the calculation of fares two fare zone systems are set up for the actual urban area and the total fare zone. To the central zone 1, which is limited to a large extent through the neighborhoods of narrow urban area, are another area which includes the suburbs. These cover the entire territory of Belgrade, but no nationwide railway infrastructure is in place in the tariff zone.

In October 2008, the price was for single tickets 25 dinars for a single journey in the inner zone and 90 dinars for the trip through the inner and outer zones. All trips that pass through both zones cost 90 dinars uniformly, regardless of the length of the journey.

Since April 1, 2009 Month brands for the Beovoz offered. These are each valid for one calendar month and cost the normal price 1200 dinars and 600 dinars reduced (about 6 euros ).

History and Development

Reconstruction of the Belgrade railway junction

The interior of the City of Belgrade railway goes back to the comprehensive reconstruction of the Belgrade railway junction in 1971.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new railway bridge as the first central building of the railway junction and actual construction began in 1974. Railway bridge over the Sava was consecrated in 1979. However, since the bridge had by the lack of tunnels in the city and the site of the station Prokop no shuttle service, the completion of the tunnel Dedinje and Vračar were necessary to accommodate the operation of a light rail.

Work on the new Belgrade main station Prokop began in 1977. Planned as a central hub of city railway station was designed by the same time work on three of the city under crossing tunnels for a complex rail system.

Despite delay in the project, the first Beovoz - trains ran on links between Batanjnica and those under construction station Belgrade Center / Prokop since 30 September 1984. Termination stop, however, a temporary station behind the New railway bridge remained until 1992 without access to public transport.

Official start of operations

The official inauguration of Beovoz was in 1992. With three lines for the first time drove through Beovoz trains runs regularly between the city center on the relations Pancevo Batanjnica and Resnik - Batajnica. The operational center of Beovoz is " Beograd centar " station.

Tunnel Vračar

The central axis of the operation is two-track tunnel Vračar of 3225 m length. This crosses the urban area between the stations Karadordev Park and Pančevo. Built by 1974-1995 were originally next to the stations Karadordev park, Vukov spomenik and Pancevacki still most the station Slavija be built. However, this was not carried out.

Spomenik inauguration of the underground station Vukov

Since 1985, the Beovoz worked on the first underground station. After ten years of construction, with the opening of lying at a depth of 43 m station Vukov spomenik 1995 a holding station near the immediate city center will be opened and a faster connection the suburbs are reached at the center.

The opening of the station was opened by the then President of Serbia, Slobodan Milošević and the political leadership of the Socialist Party of Serbia and in July on 7 July 1995 in a manifestation which was broadcast nationwide on television, which strongly to the staatspropagandistischen manifestations in the former socialist Eastern Bloc remembered.

At the opening of the complex representation and magnificent building, modeled with five levels, exclusive materials, as well as a bronze monumental sculpture the style of Moscow and St. Petersburg metro stations, Milošević held the following, the former economic blockade of Yugoslavia out alternate speech: the fact that our country have brought such a project in the years of complete international blockade and in a time in which we were one until now unknown external pressure successfully concluded, shows that this could be an obstacle that Belgrade the most modern underground station in Europe got. She has not only practical but also symbolic value because it is undoubtedly visible, we have stepped in the development of our railways in the coming century. The railway in Serbia should look like and it will look when the project is finished, we have started here with the realization of the modernization of the railway and the high-speed traffic.

Central station Prokop

The heart of the S-Bahn, rail transport is the station Prokop / Belgrade center, waiting until now to their completion. In 1977 she started could not be stopped. With ten railway lines will serve both the urban and long-distance transport. In per capita income but today is the operational center of the Beovoz, since all the lines converge.

Plans to further expand and improve the existing system

Uniform tariff system

So far, the Belgrade suburban railway is operated by the railways of Serbia, but should be in future be integrated into the tariff system of the GSP, for 2007, a feasibility study has been commissioned. The Belgrade Traffic Institute CIP has completed the study for the integration of 2008. With a unified fare system, passengers of Beovoz can use the billets for the vehicles of the GSP, what should be done with interchange points of the GSP and adjusted time clock at all Beovoz station.

Shortening the ride act

The biggest limitation of the drive today is to act that provided for the Beovoz nine obsolete and no longer technically flawless and therefore much to be renewed railcars compositions which may be operating only at a distance of 30 to 60 minutes today. Cancellations are especially in the evenings regular phenomena, thereby discourage potential users of Beovozes stop using it. There are also missing passenger information and display panels.

Improvement of information and establishment of electronic Zuganzeigen

An integration of electronic departure and arrival ads in stations to improve communication between operators and passengers and increase the reliability of use.

Improved surrounding area connection

As part of the planning approval for the increased presence of Beovozes in public transport operation concept is developed, which means a complete reorganization of the Belgrade suburban railway system. In particular, by a composite plan is the current preference for bus and tram through better accessibility and facilitated change, be improved, especially in the countryside. So to continue from Belgrade remote locations up to 45 minutes faster than with other modes of transportation are connected to the city center.

For this, the following measures are planned:

  • Changing the clock frequency throughout the day from the current 45-60 minutes to 10-15 minutes in a radius of 10 km around the downtown Belgrade and in rush hour -to-endpoint
  • Long-term purchase of 18 new sets.
  • Reconstruction of the railway tracks at 70 km / h and in the final phase of the plan at once foreseen 100-120 km / h

Policy implementation process, funding

The project of the expansion of Beovoz should be made possible by a mixed financing. The state and the city will pay for the financing. For 2009, the city has provided 13 million euros for the revitalization of the S-Bahn. This would be the first major investment in Beovoz since 2005 and could provide a driving clock speed of 15 to 20 min in the future with the purchase of new railcars units. For this, the Serbian Railways have now get approved for the purchase of up to 25 sets out a loan of 100 million euros at the EBRD, which will be paid on 24 March 2009.

As the beginning of 2009 it was announced the funding planned for the reconstruction of facilities and the purchase of new railcars will move especially because of the economic crisis somewhat. Considerations to borrow or lease new railcars are currently being discussed. Meanwhile, a more fundamental ownership structure will be discussed again in the city with the State shall notify the jurisdiction of the Beovoz and thus a part of the operating costs is shouldered out of the city budget. The Beovoz is to be operated in the future through a joint venture. It also has the task of name Beovoz in favor of S-Bahn Belgrade is discussed. The measures provided by the City for 2009 300 million dinars for the Beovoz stay but still part of the investment, a portion of which will be used in the renewal of rails and railway crossings. By the end of 2010 to launch four new railcars are purchased and after 2010 are 16 more scheduled.

New external routes

In particular, the expansion on the connection Belgrade Airport and the connection to the compounds Belgrade and Belgrade - Borca - Obrenovac are in the planning process.

As an implementation of the planned Metro Belgrade will not be realized so quickly, the city has set as a priority for the short and medium term transport planning in public transport Belgrade enhanced structural improvement of the quality and make better use of Beovoz connection from the countryside to the city. Short and medium term it is planned that the Belgrade suburban railway Beovoz than on independent trackage traffic- forming mass means of transport, the yet to be constructed Metro Belgrade structurally replaced and to commissioning of the Metro to the city center operated by an independent rail transport system. As an effect, one would expect a greater relief to the city center by road traffic, which is possible if the stimulation improved clock and better public image can significantly increase the number of passengers.
