Berar Sultanate

The Sultanate of Berar was one of the five central Indian Deccan sultanates, which emerged from the Bahmani Sultanate. It was founded in 1490 and existed until the submission by the Sultanate of Ahmadnagar in 1574. Capital was Gawilghur ( Gawil ). Berar took only one of the five Deccan sultanates - not participate in the Battle of Talikota ( 1565) against the South Indian Hindu kingdom of Vijayanagar.

History

1490 said the governor Imad ul- Mulk from the Bahmani Sultanate los, proclaimed himself Sultan and thus founded the dynasty of the Imad Shahi. Until 1498 he had the kingdom, which stretched to the east of present-day Indian state of Maharashtra, largely consolidated. After 1527 the sultanate of Ahmadnagar westernmost expanded at the expense Berars. The fall of the Imad Shahi by the Minister Tufal Khan in 1568 took Ahmadnagar in 1572 as an opportunity to invade Berar and completely annexing two years later. 1596 came Berar to the Mughal Empire.
