Berastagi

Berastagi (sometimes: Brastagi ) is a city on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Berastagi is located in northwest Sumatra ( North Sumatra Province ) on 1330 meters altitude on the edge of the Toba highlands, 66 kilometers southwest of Medan and about 50 km northeast of the Lake Toba. Due to its pleasant climate, Dutch came back in the 1920s from the swampy coastal plain to rest here in order to set up a rural retreat. Today wealthy Medan build weekend houses.

The town has mostly Karo Batak. The city belongs to the administrative district of Karo, whose capital Kabanjahe located 11 km south.

The ambient impressed by two volcanoes: the 2,095 m high Gunung Sibayak and the northwest of the 2,454 m high Gunung Sinabung.
