Berat District

The circle Berat (Albanian: Rrethi i Beratit ) is one of the 36 administrative districts of Albania. The circle with an area of 915 km ² belongs to the same Qark. He has 97 942 inhabitants ( 2011). It was named after the capital district of Berat.

Geography

The district lies to the south of Berat Myzeqe level. It begins at its edge and covers the entire hill country around Berat. Core area of the circle forms the lower Osum Valley. Further up the valley follows the circle Skrapar. On the eastern border the top of the mountain is Tomorr ( 2,414 m), the most famous mountain southern Albania.

Economy

Apart from the town of Berat, which serves as a regional center and where tourism is gradually evolve on - the nomination as a Unesco World Heritage Site is under development - the circle lives almost exclusively on agriculture. While large areas outside the Osum Valley are very remote, there is in the center MORE DETAILED areas have farms that produce with modern means. In Berat District wine is made in many places.

The road into the Osum Valley, once an important caravan route is now a dead end. The circle Berat is thus at no passage route. Through the Flat Myzeqe level Berat is nevertheless quite well connected with the centers of central Albania.
