Berdsk

Berdsk (Russian Бердск ) is a town with 97,296 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the Novosibirsk Oblast in Russia. It lies about 30 km south of the regional capital Novosibirsk, at the mouth of the river Berd (Russian Бердь ) in the Ob ( Russian Обь ). The nearest town is Iskitim, 18 km south-east of Berdsk.

History

The exact date of the city is not known; the emergence of a first settlement at this point is suspected in the years 1713-1718, when the eastward advancing Russians built a fortress ( called Ostrog ). Thus Berdsk is significantly older than the much more famous capital of Novosibirsk Oblast. Even the origin of the place name is not known, but could possibly be the Tatar language be removed.

At the purely military use of the fortress was a brisk trade, which was driven by the drawn settlers from European Russia in the 18th century. Economy and Transport
