Berengar the Wise
Berengar of Toulouse, called the Wise ( Catalan Berenguer el Savi; * 800, † 835) was Count of Toulouse, Duke of Septimania and Count of Barcelona.
Origin
Berengar was the son of the Marquis of Unruoch Ternois ( Unruochinger ) and Trude Engel of Paris.
His siblings were
- Margrave Eberhard of Friuli (* 810, † 866), married Gisela, daughter of Emperor Louis the Pious; Berengar was thus uncle of Berengar of Friuli, the later Holy Roman Emperor Berengar I
- Adalhard († April 3 864) Abbot of Saint- Bertin and Saint- Amand
- And an unknown sister, wife of Suppo III. , Margrave of Spoleto 871/875

Life

834 Pippin reconciled with the emperor and defeated his brother Lothar. Bernhard, who had supported Pippin here, now claimed his former title as a reward. Berengar, who had always been faithful to his master, both the Emperor and Pippin were 835 all his lands taken out of the county of Toulouse.
837 invited the Emperor Berengar and Bernhard to come to a decision about the possessions of Septimania and Gothia. On the journey but died unexpectedly Berengar and so remained the local counties in the hands of Bernard.
