Beresford is a town in Union County in the U.S. state of South Dakota. It has 2006 inhabitants ( 2000) on an area of 4.6 km ².

Beresford is on the border between Lincoln County and Union County. The border runs along the Cedar Street Beresford. Approximately two-thirds of the local area (including the Town Hall ) are in Union County.

The city was initially the name of Paris, Dakota Territory. It was named after Lord Charles Beresford, a British Admiral and Member, renamed and officially founded on July 12, 1884.
