Bereznik, Vinogradovsky District, Arkhangelsk Oblast

Beresnik (Russian Березник ) is an urban-type settlement in North West Russia. It belongs to the Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 6018 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

Beresnik is located about 215 km southeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Arkhangelsk. It is located on the left bank of the Northern Dvina River about 6 km north of the mouth of the Waga in the same. The nearest towns are located about 90 km south Shenkursk, the 115 km to the west and the town of Mirny located 120 km west Plesetsk.

History

Beresnik was first mentioned in 1676 and 1962 got the status of an urban-type settlement. It is the administrative center of the Rajons Vinogradov.

Economy and Transport

The economy of the settlement is based primarily on agriculture (dairy and vegetable production ) and to the forest industry.

Directly by the city runs the highway M8, from Moscow to Severodvinsk. Beresnik is not in possession of a railway connection. The nearest railway stations are 148 km north- westernmost station Cholmogorskaja, as well as on the M8 achievable station in Velsk 200 km south of Beresnik.
