Berezniki

Beresniki (Russian Березники ) is a city with 156 466 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) on the Kama in the Perm region of Russia, located 278 km north of the capital subject Perm. It is measured in terms of population, the second largest city of Perm region.

History

Beresniki was founded in 1932. The first roots of the city are, however, already in the 17th century. 1670 the place Dedjuchino ( Дедюхино ) was founded near the salt mines in this section of the river. Some other settlements were located in the area around this place. Dedjuchino (which received city rights before the revolution ) and the other settlements were united in 1932 to the city Beresniki.

Economy and Development

The potash and magnesium salt deposit to Beresniki and 20 kilometers north location Solikamsk also in Beresniki the main importance in the industry. The company Uralkali has its headquarters in Beresniki.

The coming of Perm railway ends in Solikamsk. Even the paved roads lead only to the south. The Kama is navigable only from Solikamsk. Thus, the two cities have indeed a huge potential in natural resources, but does not have good transport links.
