History

All three villages existed in the Middle Ages. Ammerstol was even some time city, it had received from the Count of Holland Fish Market and customs rights, but could not prevail against cheaper villages. Several old farms still reflect a certain level of prosperity in the 18th and 19th centuries. The former Prime Minister Wim Kok was born in Bergambacht.
