Bergheim (Haut-Rhin)

Bergheim is a commune with 1897 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Association of Municipalities Ribeauvillé.

Mountain Home has a fully enclosing double walls with numerous towers and a gate, the Upper Gate, from the 14th century. The second town gate on the other side of town no longer exists.

Geography

Bergheim is located ( south 16 km) between Colmar and Schlettstadt (11 km north) in the Upper Rhine Plain. The town is a typical wine village with two well-known vineyards, the Altenberg de Bergheim and the Kanzlerberg. It is located on the Alsace Wine Route. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

History

Bergheim was inhabited in Roman times. In 1848, they put a large mosaic that time free (now in the Musée d' Linden in Colmar), then another in 2006.

In the Middle Ages, Bergheim was a free city of the rule Rappoltstein. In 1313, the city was granted the right to coin money and to levy customs duties.

The eastern Untertor no longer exists. The kennel between the two walls is occupied today by private gardens. The outer city wall is completely walkable. The inner city wall consists of the outer walls of the townhouses.
  • The parish church of Notre- Dame de l' Assomption ( Assumption) was built from 1320 to 1347, the interior remodeled 1718 Baroque. Side chapel and sacristy are neogothic. The tympanum shows an Adoration of the Magi. 1959 frescoes were rediscovered in 1480 when a restoration.   • The town hall dates from 1767.
  • The synagogue was built in the years 1860-1863. It replaced the medieval synagogue ( 1300 ), which was destroyed by fire in 1840.
