Bergues

Bergues (Dutch Sint- Winoksbergen or Bergen) is a commune in the Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It belongs to Arrondissement Dunkerque and is the capital ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of the same name. It belongs to the Communauté de communes du canton de Bergues.

Geography

The small town with 3898 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) is located on the northwest edge of the eponymous hill Grönberg (of ndl. Groen Mountain / dt: " Green Mountain" ) in the historical province of Flanders in the landscape Blootland that and along the northern French Belgian channel coast extends, and is located about ten kilometers south of Dunkirk and 15 kilometers from the border with Belgium. Blootland is Flemish and means empty, bare land, which the grove poor coastal marsh well characterized. Neighboring municipalities are in the northwest Coudekerque -Village, the East Hoymille, in the southeast Quaëdypre, to the south and west Socx Bierne.
