Berit Berthelsen

Berit Berthelsen Berit Tøien ( born April 25, 1944 in Nittedal ) is a former Norwegian athlete. She started for the clubs Hakadal IL and IL Tyrving.

Berthelsen won during the Nordic Championships in 1965, five gold medals (100 m, 200 m, 400 m, long jump and relay ). She won the European Indoor Championships in the long jump in 1967 and 1968 and won bronze in 1969 in Athens. Berthelsen has established 33 Norwegian records. The long jump record of 6.56 m 1968 was exceeded only in August 2009 by Margrethe Renstrom of 6.64 m.

Berit Berthelsen won four times the King Cup: 1963, 1964, 1966 and 1968, garnering 35 Norwegian championship. Five on the 100 meter distance, nine to 200 m, four at 400 m, a, and at 100 m hurdles, eleven in the long jump four in cross country. In 1967 she was honored with the Morgenbladet gold medal.

She was married to the Norwegian long jumper Roar Berthelsen. In 1968, she was the Norwegian flag bearer at the Summer Olympic Games in Mexico.
