Berkakit

Berkakit ( Yakut and Russian Беркакит ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia) in Russia with 4291 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The village is located about 670 km as the crow south-southwest of the capital of Republic of Yakutsk in the southern part of the Aldanhochlandes the eponymous Berkakit Maly ( Little Berkakit ), a right tributary of the Aldan Creek Tschulman.

Berkakit belongs to Rajon Nerjungrinski and is located approximately 10 km south of the administrative center Nerjungri. The settlement is the seat and only town in the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Berkakit.

History

The settlement was founded in 1975 in connection with the construction of the "Little BAM " Bamowskaja - founded Nerjungri (now southern section of the Amur - Yakut Magistrale, Ajam ) - Tynda. Since 1977 Berkakit has the status of an urban-type settlement.

Traffic

Berkakit located at kilometer 430 ( from Skovorodino ) of the Amur - Yakutian Railway Mainline ( Ajam ), which connects the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Baikal - Amur Mainline (BAM ) with Nizhny Bestjach near the Yakut capital Yakutsk (also kilometer 0 in the direction of Nizhny Bestjach ).

To the east is Berkakit of the highway A360 Lena (previously M56, until 2017 number alternatively in use) bypassed, connecting the Newer at the Amur highway also with Nizhny Bestjach.
