Geography

Geographical location

Berkatal located in the Natural Park Meissner Kaufunger forest at the foot of the mountain Hoher Meißner. The Berka rises in the municipality.

Neighboring communities

Berkatal bordered to the west and north of the city Allendorf, on the east by the town of Eschwege, in the south on the community Meissner (municipality ) and on the southwest by the two cities hessian Lichtenau and Großalmerode (all in the Werra- Meißner-Kreis ).

History

Frankershausen

The district Frankershausen is the first mention of the year 876 one of the oldest towns in the region.
