It is located near the overpass of the Mecklenburg road over the circle line and forms the northern end of the Rheingau district. The S-Bahn station was opened in 1883 as Schmargendorf Station, the underground train station in 1913 under its current name. Only in 1993 it was renamed the S-Bahn station and the establishment of a direct transition between two transport.

S-Bahn station

The first still operated by steam trains station on the circle line was opened on 15 December 1883 as a Schmargendorf station. 1890 to 1892 was the expansion of the station at which the still preserved station building in the Romanesque Revival style and, colloquially known as " the greenhouse gang " designated walkway were created for middle platform. The roof consisted at first of a two-row wooden structure that was built in the 1920s, replaced by a riveted steel construction. The electrical equipment was taken on November 6, 1928

During the Second World War, the maintenance of the Allied bombers was not hit, so that almost the entire station facility in the 1950s continued to exist in the state in the 1920s. Only through the proclaimed after the Wall boycott of the S -Bahn in West Berlin decreased ridership and thus the revenue. The Reichsbahn as operator of the S -Bahn then shortened in both halves of the city funds for the operation, repairs were carried out only in an emergency and the few staff got much longer hours. The criticism of the employees came to a head in September 1980, so that it came to an open strike between the 15th and 24th September. The S -Bahn traffic was stopped completely on the evening of September 17th and not resumed after the strike.

After closure, go to the plants, only the reception building was renovated in the 1980s. However, it burned a short time on it. After the second restoration took a nightclub in the building.

In 1989 the decision to restart the ring road between West and Schöneberg. After the fall of the plans have been revised and included the section between Schöneberg and Baumschulenweg on the east side. By 1993, then was the comprehensive redevelopment of the track. The station Heidelberger Platz was thereby moved under the Mecklenburg street, on the one hand, on the other hand allow a stairway to the street with direct access to the underlying underground line. On 17 December 1993, the official reopening took place.

Subway station

The underground station Heidelberger Platz emerged as the subway between Wilmersdorf and Dahlem, today's Metro Line 3 Station The opening of the abbreviated Hb station took place on 12 October 1913. Since the tunnel route had to cross the incision of the ring road here, the profile was relatively low, but also enabled the artful design of the system.

The city of Wilmersdorf as the owner of the web was anxious to express the subway prosperity, and caused that all stations within the city limits should not have any steel, but stone supports. The stations themselves are fundamentally different from one another and do not refer to equivalent features such as design and equipment.

In the case of the U -Bahn station Heidelberger Platz responsible architect Wilhelm Leitgebel designed a station that resembles a cathedral. The central platform is finished on both ends of lobbies, which are followed by the outputs. The ceiling of the platform was created as a groin vault, which was made possible only by the particular depth position. All panels are made of stone and partly of tiles.

At installation of the station, a direct transition to the overlying suburban station was not considered. This came about only after the re-opening of the circle line in 1993.

Connection

The station is served by lines S41, S42 and S46, the S- Bahn and the U3 subway. There is an interchange with bus line 249 to the Berlin public transport.
