Berlin, Holmes County, Ohio

Berlin is a town in Holmes County, Ohio, about 60 miles northeast of Columbus. The town was founded in 1811 and today has approximately 3,500 inhabitants. It is the largest town of the Amish in the United States.

Berlin is influenced by the lifestyle of the Amish, largely without modern achievements. Thus, there are in these households neither electricity nor a telephone network. The Amish use as vehicles exclusively carriages. Outside the Amish community, however, is Berlin especially because of tourism, attracted by the interest in the Amish, a modern place represents the economy is also determined by agriculture and by the established furniture industry.
