The train station Berlin -Karl Horst is a regional and suburban rail station in the district of Karl Horst of the Berlin district of Lichtenberg.

History

The station was taken on May 1, 1895 on the Lower Silesian - Märkischen web under the name Carl Horst in operation, are initially more for suburban services rather than for visitors to the 1893/1894 built obstacle race track. Specially A six- head station was built next to the suburb platform - with a reception pavilion for the emperor. In 1901 it was renamed Karl Horst. With the high lapping the track until 1902 the current station building and the bridge over the current Treskowallee emerged. 1928, the electric commuter train operations began on the route between Erkner and Potsdam. The traffic at the station, still resulting in large part from the visitors to the racecourse, posted its largest numbers in these years.

After the Second World War, in July 1945, the tracks of the route were briefly umgespurt to Russian broad gauge. The Soviet dictator Stalin was a participant of the Potsdam Conference and insisted on a transfer- arrivals. The Rückumspurung to standard gauge took place in September of the same year. As the route was the main compound in the USSR, the remote tracks were from disassembly spared, as a compensation, however, both were suburban railways away. Only in 1947 could use the re- laid tracks and so also drive Karl Horst again S -Bahn trains.

After the construction of the Wall on August 13, 1961, the station finally got the then still existing regional platform. Since the S -Bahn trains to Potsdam could not drive through West Berlin, new shuttle trains between East Berlin and Potsdam via the outer ring had to be conducted. Karl Horst offered itself as the most appropriate for this station "Sputnik " mentioned traits. In addition, during GDR times held some trains to Frankfurt ( Oder) in the station. At certain times of Karl Horst was also the end point of some express trains, if the capacity of the other Berlin's main train stations was not sufficient.

The regional station remained until today a provisional. This is especially evident in the connection of the platform for trains coming from the east, which is just awkward to reach via a pedestrian bridge at the rear end of the S platform. In 2007, the Fernbahnüberbauten over the Treskowallee had to be replaced by temporary bridges because of dilapidation. Between May of 2010 and May 2011, the eastern access tunnel was extended north to Stolzenfelsstraße and created there a small porch, which the station received a further access to the S- platform. The cost of 850,000 euros, the Land Berlin.

Construction

During the project development path ( ABS) Berlin - Frankfurt (Oder) expanded the mainline tracks in the next few years in the area of the station Berlin -Karl Horst and the railway overpass Treskowallee completely renewed way. The bridge is worn out due to age, the extensive damage to force a replacement building. In this context, the bridge of 15.75 meters clear width is widened to 31.50 meters. An additional pedestrian bridge another access on the west side of Treskowallee is set up ( with lift and staircase ), the direct access from the Treskowallee in the eastern abutment is opened again. The tram stop is then to be laid in the course of expanding Treskowallee under the bridge, stopping each at the roadside. The associated zoning decision was published on 14 October 2011.

After several postponements, construction began in early 2012.: It is estimated a construction period of two years and four months. In May 2012, the old bridge decks were excavated over the Treskowallee and replaced by temporary bridges to rebuild the abutments under whose protection can. Also made preparations to receive a single-track management of the S -Bahn from end of May. After the new direction of the abutment of the first new steel superstructure could then be raised with a weight of 240 tons in June 2013. This refers to the two mainline tracks. The single stroke of superstructures for the two S- train tracks and the new pedestrian overpass is done beginning of October 2013, so then a two-way S -Bahn operation is possible. Completion of construction is scheduled for April 2014.

When construction work on the new pedestrian bridge collapsed on October 12, 2013, 17 against clock a seven -ton bridge part six feet deep on the bottom of the concourse. Two construction workers were hard and a construction worker slightly injured. A severely injured died after a few hours in the Emergency Hospital Berlin.

Transport links

Since 1998, the station is no longer served by trains from Potsdam to Berlin's southern outer ring. The support for regional express trains to Frankfurt ( Oder) accounted for a year later.
