The Wuhlheide railway station is a railway station on the Berlin S- Niederschlesisch - Märkischen railroad. It is located at the intersection of the path with the Berlin outer ring in the district of Köpenick. In addition to the holding point of the S-Bahn line S3 here is also the terminus of the Berlin Park Railway, which opens to the south of the route, the area of leisure and recreation center. The train station is not to be confused with the now abandoned marshalling yard Wuhlheide on the outer ring.

History

In winter 1877/1878 the station was opened as a simple stop of the train at the crossing point with several forest roads and streets. To the south, at the mouth of the River Spree in Wuhle, there was a tourist restaurant with the name " Sadowa " - according to the site of the decisive battle Sadová the Austro-Prussian War - which gave the station its name. In 1902, the route own pair of tracks for suburban trains. Following the expansion of the station was also extended and received the typical berlin platform canopies and a glass-enclosed, so-called " greenhouse transition ". In 1929 it was renamed the station in Wuhlheide, after the same forest area, which extends around the station.

By 1940, the S-Bahn station of the goods outer ring was applied immediately to the west, crossing the main track on a bridge structure. After the war, the track was initially removed, but was rebuilt two years later. As of July 1948 diesel railcars were used in the suburbs, who drove from Kaulsdorf coming over the so-called vnk loop, and the goods outer ring until after Grunau. At the junction with the Lower Silesian - Märkischen train a breakpoint has been set for the change, a direct transition was, however, not been established between the two platforms above and below. Since the route went through almost uninhabited area, the traffic was already set after just one year. The platform on the outer ring was later demolished. In 1951, goods outer ring was replaced by the Berlin outer ring, which takes a similar, sometimes identical, the course in this area.

In 1993 came the next plant expansion, this time south of the railway embankment. The Berlin Park Railway, which led only to a circuit through the Wuhlheide park before, was extended to S-Bahn station and received a two-track terminus with Umsetzmöglichkeit. Thus the Berlin Park Railway has received a better connection to the public transport. In July 2011, an elevator was put into operation at the western end of the platform, so the station is accessible.

Connection

The S-Bahn station is served by the S3 line of the Berlin S-Bahn. In addition to the adjacent platform of the Berlin Park Railway is an interchange with bus line 190 to the Berlin public transport.
