Berliner Maschinenbau

The Berliner Maschinenbau AG ( BMAG, full name: Berliner Maschinenbau - Actien Society formerly L. Schwartzkopff, Berlin) was a German manufacturer of locomotives.

History

The work was founded on 3 October 1852 as an iron foundry and machine factory of L. Schwartzkopff in Berlin by Robert Louis Victor Schwartzkopff. After a fire in 1860 and the expansion of the plant began with the production of turntables, water systems and switches for several railway companies. The first locomotive of the company was delivered on February 1, 1867, the Lower Silesian - märkische railroad. On 1 July 1870, the company was converted into a public limited company and changed its name, now called the Berliner Maschinenbau - Actien Society formerly L. Schwartzkopff, Berlin. 1897 a second plant was opened in Wildau. Since 1899, the company also Linotype typesetting machines built for the Mergenthaler typesetting machines -Fabrik GmbH (Berlin). The Munich-based company Maffei began on July 4, 1907 a cooperation. For this purpose, the Maffei Schwartzkopff -Werke GmbH was opened next to the existing plant in Wildau. There they began in 1910 with the construction of electric locomotives and their equipment. 1924 was followed by diesel locomotives. 1932 went the Maffei Schwartzkopff -Werke GmbH in liquidation.

After the destruction of factories during the Second World War and the subsequent dismantling of large parts of the works in Berlin and Wildau ended in 1945 the construction of locomotives by the Berliner Maschinenbau AG. The production of iron castings, Linotype typesetting machines and bottle blowing machines was started in the remaining work on 20 September 1945. In 1961, the Moorburger executor works were acquired and converted their production. In 1966, the Berliner Maschinenbau AG went on mbH in the DIAG, the German (s ) Industrial equipment.
