Career

His coaching career began at FC La Chaux -de-Fonds. Further stations were Le Locle, Yverdon -Sport FC, Servette FC Genève and BSC Young Boys. His engagements in Geneva and Bern each lasted less than a year. A name Challandes had made in Yverdon, after he had led the Vaudois of the 1st League in the National League A.

From 1995 Challandes worked for the Swiss Football Association, since 2001 he was a U-21 national team coach. His greatest success with this selection was reaching the semi-finals European Championship on home soil in 2002.

In the 2008 /09 season he was Swiss champion with FC Zurich, which he coached since the summer of 2007. On 19 April 2010 he was - after 0-1 home defeat against FC Aarau - dismissed and released immediately.

For the 2010/11 season was Challandes new coach of FC Sion. On 22 February 2011 he was replaced by Laurent Roussey. On Friday, 13 May 2011 Challandes took over the head coaching job at Xamax. Despite league obtaining his contract was not renewed.

From the beginning of the 2011/12 season until mid- season 2012/13 Challandes was coach of FC Thun.

Beginning of April 2013 Challandes was again coach of BSC Young Boys.

On February 28, 2014 it was announced that the New Burger is on March 5, take the Armenian national football team.

Private

Challandes is married and has four children. His son, Mehdi is currently playing for FC Biel -Bienne.
