Bernard Corboz

Bernard CORBOZ ( born April 2, 1948 in Geneva, † September 24, 2013 ) was a Swiss federal judge.

After his studies and doctorate at the University of Geneva CORBOZ worked from 1970 to 1973, first as a lawyer. In 1973 he became deputy prosecutor ( " substitut du procureur ' ) of the Canton of Geneva. In 1974 he was appointed magistrate in 1975 and a judge of the Court of First Instance. He remained there until 1983 and then became a judge at the Supreme Court in Geneva. In 1985 he was Attorney General of Geneva for five years. In addition, he was Assistant Judge at the Swiss Federal Court (1981) and Judge at Militärkassationshof (1987).

On March 21, 1990, he was appointed on the proposal of the Free Democratic Party in federal court. Until his death he was a member of the first civil department. On 4 October 2006, he lost the election as the new President of the Federal Court with 53 to 136 votes against the Bernese Arthur Aeschlimann.
