Bernard de Wit

Bernard de Wit ( born 1945 ) is a Dutch theoretical physicist who deals with supergravity and string theory.

De Wit studied at Utrecht University, where he received his doctorate in 1973 Martinus Veltman. As a post - graduate student he was at SUNY, in Utrecht and Leiden. In 1978 he became a member of the National Institute for Nuclear and High Energy Physics of the Netherlands NIKHEF in Amsterdam. In 1981 he became head of the theory group. In 1984 he became a professor at the University of Utrecht. In 2010 he retired, but is still scientifically active.

Mid-1980s, he found Hermann Nicolai, N = 8 supergravity theory, which = 11 supergravity dimensions d = 4 arises from the dimensional reduction of the maximum supersymmetric d on four space-time and in many ways a maximal supersymmetry for a supergravity theory with a graviton and no particles with spin has greater than 2.
