Bernard Durkan

Bernard Durkan ( born March 26, 1945 in Killasser, County Mayo ) is an Irish politician and since 1982 a deputy in the lower house of the Irish Parliament.

Durkan was first elected in 1981 for Fine Gael in the 22th Dáil Éireann. In the elections in February 1982, he could not defend his seat. Instead, Durkan was elected to Seanad Éireann on the 16th. As in the same year elections for Dáil Éireann were needed again, Durkan ran again for his party. This time he managed to win a mandate and to keep it even for the next elections. During his time as a Teachta Dala Durkan had dated 20 December 1994 to 26 June 1997, the Minister of State for Social Assistance (Minister of State at the Department of Social Welfare ) holds.
