Bernard Herzbrun

Bernard Herzbrun ( born January 10, 1891 in New York City; † January 7, 1964 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American art director and production designer, who at the Academy Awards in 1939 for the Academy Award for Best Production Design for the film Alexander 's Ragtime band (1938 ) was nominated.

Life

Herzbrun began his career as an art director and production designer in 1930 with the film Seven Days 's Leave from Paramount Pictures and then moved in 1937 to 20th Century Fox. After leaving 20th Century Fox in 1939, he worked until 1940 for numerous film production companies as RKO Pictures before he was then from 1940 to 1955 head of the art department of Universal Studios and there together worked with Nathan Juran.

Throughout his 25 - year career in the film industry, he worked with at the base of over 280 films.

At the Academy Awards in 1939, he was nominated along with Boris Leven for the Academy Award for Best Production Design in the film Alexander 's Ragtime Band (1938).
