Bernard IV, Margrave of Baden-Durlach

Margrave Bernhard of Baden-Durlach (* 1517, † January 20, 1553 ) was from September 26 1552 until his death on January 20, 1553 Margrave of Baden- Pforzheim.

Life

Bernhard was the second son of the first marriage of Margrave Ernst of Baden-Durlach with Elisabeth von Brandenburg- Ansbach.

As his older brother Albert is attributed to a dissolute lifestyle and a wild nature Bernhard. He opposed the 1537 planned by his father division of the land among his sons, and especially against the second marriage of the father and the inheritance rights of his half- brother Charles. In 1540 he acquired the citizenship of the city of Basel, where he was debtor. After his brother Albrecht had died in 1542, his father forgave him and promised him the lower Margraviate of inheritance.

He reigned for 26 September 1552 lower Margraviate of Baden - Pforzheim (later Margraviate of Baden -Durlach ) with the cities of Pforzheim and Durlach, while his half-brother Charles II the Upper Baden reigned, with his government lasted only a few months, because it already on January 20, 1553 died suddenly. He is buried in the collegiate church at Pforzheim.
