Bernard Knowles

Bernard Knowles ( born February 20, 1900 in Manchester, † February 12, 1975 in Taplow, Buckinghamshire ) was a British cinematographer and film director.

Life

Bernard Knowles was after the first world war worked as a press photographer in the USA. After returning to his home country he worked his way through the stations camera assistant and cameraman in the function of the chief cameraman up and photographed for directors such as Herbert Wilcox, Victor Saville and Berthold Viertel, but especially for Alfred Hitchcock, for the best-known yet arisen in Europe Movies he served as cinematographer. From the mid- 40s Knowles worked as a director, with its usually undemanding entertainment films the audience at considerably more popular than the film met with criticism. From the early 50s Knowles worked mainly for television and worked only occasionally for the cinema.
