Bernard Lama ( born April 7, 1963 in Saint- Symphorien ( Indre- et- Loire) ) is a former French football goalkeeper and later football coach.

Career

Lama completed between February 1993 and September 2000 44 caps for the French national team. He was elected in France in 1994 Footballer of the Year and was at the 1996 European Championships in goal for France. Two years later he was indeed turn back the number 1, but sat at the 1998 World Cup in their own country behind Fabien Barthez on the substitutes' bench. At the European Championships in 2000 he was the last group game, as the next round already chosen to play against the Netherlands.

Bernard Lama ended his active career in 2001.

In July 2006 he took over the post of the Kenyan national team coach. In his debut as coach his team defeated the Eritrean national soccer team. After two months in office, he was replaced by Tom Olaba.
