Bernard McGinn (theologian)

Bernard McGinn ( born August 19, 1937 in Yonkers, New York) is one of the foremost experts of Western history of spirituality and mysticism.

Life

McGinn received his B. A. (cum laude) in 1959 at St. Joseph 's Seminary and College in Yonkers, New York in 1963 and his theological licentiate (cum laude) at the Gregorian University in Rome in 1970 his Ph.D. (with distinction) at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. McGinn teaches since 1969 at the Divinity College, University of Chicago, where he became Professor Emeritus in 2003. There, he handled the previous 65 dissertations.

McGinn is married to Patricia Ferris McGinn. Both have two sons, Daniel (born 1972 ) and John ( b. 1974 ).

Work

McGinns works include importance and scope of the most important contributions to Western mysticism history at all. McGinn has presented studies on virtually every relevant classics of the history of Christian spirituality. He is the author of more than 17 books and editor of more than 11 books. Its also been translated into German mysticism history is the standard work on the subject in addition to the older representation of Kurt Ruh.
