Bernard Miles

Bernard James Miles, Baron Miles ( born September 27, 1907 in Uxbridge, Middlesex, † June 14 1991 in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire ) was a British actor.

Life

Bernard Miles worked after studying in Oxford for a short time as a teacher, but then went to the theater. His repertoire included, among other things, title roles in several Shakespeare plays. Throughout his career surpassed the stage presence, the appearances in movies. Most famous was his portrayal of the kidnapper in The Man Who Knew Too Much, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. 1979 Miles was raised as a life peer in the peerage, and was then until his death a member of the House of Lords. In 1931 he married actress Josephine Wilson with whom he founded the London Mermaid Theatre together in 1959.
