Bernard Nathanson

Bernard Nathanson ( born July 31, 1926 in New York City; † 21 February 2011) was an American physician and right to life activist. He received international recognition through his film The Silent Scream ( in engl Original:. The silent scream ).

Life

Bernard Nathanson studied medicine in Montreal, Canada at McGill University and received his doctorate there in 1949. He sat down in the United States for the liberalization of abortion and was a co-founder of the advocacy group National Abortion Rights Action League, which for the decriminalization of abortion entered. In the 1970s, he led one of the largest abortion clinics in the United States. In the late 1970s he was increasingly questioned the moral justification of abortion, which is why he performed fewer abortions themselves. A recorded by ultrasound abortion led to his ultimate rejection. In 1984 he published the documentary film The Silent Scream, in a recorded ultrasound abortion is shown. The film produced in the United States a great deal of controversy about the legality of abortion. In his later life he was active in the American pro-life movement and converted in the course of his stance on abortion, on 8 December 1996 on the Roman Catholic Church.

His documentary film The Silent Scream was released in many countries and languages.
