Bernard Orcel

Bernard Orcel ( born April 2, 1945 in L' Alpe d' Huez ) is a French former alpine skier. He was especially successful in downhill races, but also drove the giant slalom and slalom.

Biography

A first peak in Orcels career was taking place in the summer of 1966 World Cup in Chile Portillo, where he was sixth in the downhill. In 1967 he took part in the race of the newly created World Cup, on March 3, 1967, he scored third in descent from Sestriere the first podium. At the Olympic Winter Games 1968, he drove in the downhill to eighth place. Two weeks later, on 24 February 1968 he won the World Cup downhill in Chamonix - but this should be his only victory.

Orcels most successful season was in 1970 /71. This winter he was never worse than classified in eighth place and eventually finished second in the downhill World Cup standings behind the Swiss Bernhard Russi second place. After the Olympic Games in 1972, he resigned from the top-level sport.
