Bernard Squarcini

Bernard Squarcini ( also known as Le Squale ) ( born December 12, 1955 in Rabat, French Morocco ) is a French high administration official.

Professional career

Squarcini was ( intérieur renseignement Direction centrale du, DCRI ) from 2007 head of the French domestic intelligence agency Direction de la surveillance du territoire (DST ), which together with the Direction centrale of renseignements généraux the new French domestic intelligence was merged. French President Sarkozy appointed him on July 2, 2008 for the first head of the DCRI. He held this position until his dismissal by the incoming president Hollande on 30 May 2012.

On October 17, 2011 Squarcini was charged in connection with the supervision of a journalist of the newspaper Le Monde as a "witness with legal counsel ," a mixture between witness and defendant. He was charged along with Police Chief Frederic Pechenard the phone calls of journalists to have evaluated. Target should have been in the Bettencourt affair informants.
