Bernard Voorhoof

Bernard Voorhoof ( born May 10, 1910 in Lier, Antwerp Province, † February 18, 1974 ) was a Belgian footballer. He participated in the first three World Cups and has 30 hits to date record scorer of the Belgian national team. In the highest Belgian league striker scored 1927-1948 281 goals in 473 games.

Voorhoof began with the football game at the age of 13 in his hometown at Lierse SK. Until 1926 he remained at Lierse, then he moved within Liers, first under an assumed name, for Lyra TSV because he got asked at Lierse SK neither football shoes or jersey.

After only a year he returned to LSK back, and remained loyal to the club until 1948. Already on 16 October 1927, he made ​​his debut in the highest Belgian league. In his first season he came to a total of 20 missions, scoring eleven goals, this meant that he first came in the Belgian national team in April 1928 deployment. In the game against France he contributed in a 3-2 success in a goal, but was still not considered for the Olympics in the same year.

A year later he was able to establish itself in the national team and was nominated for the first World Cup in Uruguay. However, after the three-week voyage from Europe to South America, Voorhoof had several kilograms overweight and could not retrieve its performance. So he came at this tournament only, in the first game against the USA ( 0-3 ) used and was not prepared for the second game.

In the Belgian league, he won his first championship with Lier 1932. Two years later he was again nominated for the World Cup. Since the tournament was played in 1934 in pure knockout system, he came only to use one. The second round match Belgium lost against the German team with 2:5, but he scored both goals in his team. Also in 1938 was Voorhoof in the squad Belgium and came here when Erstrundenaus against France ( 1:3 ) are used. He died at age of 63 in his hometown.
