Bernard Yago

Cardinal Bernard Yago (* July 1916 in Pass, Ivory Coast, † October 5, 1997 in Abidjan ) was Archbishop of Abidjan.

Life

Bernard Yago studied in Abidjan and Paris fan Catholic theology and philosophy. He received on 1 May 1947, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a pastor and teacher at two seminars in his home. After further study he was in the years 1959 and 1960, advisor to the Catholic Action in the Ivory Coast.

1960 he was appointed by Pope John XXIII. Archbishop of Archdiocese of Abidjan. Bernard Yago took part in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council. On 2 February 1983, Pope John Paul II was a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Crisogono to the College of Cardinals. The management of the Archdiocese of Abidjan he laid in 1994 for reasons of age. He died on 5 October 1997 in Abidjan and was buried in the local cathedral.
