Bernardino Realino

Bernardino Realino ( born December 1, 1530 in Carpi, Italy, † July 2, 1616 in Lecce, Italy ) was an Italian mayor, and Jesuit priest. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic giggle.

Life

Bernardino Realino was a prosecutor and mayor in his hometown of Carpi. Due to a Marian apparition, he joined aged 34 at the Jesuit order. In 1567 he was ordained a priest and worked from 1574 as a very popular preacher, confessor and chaplain with great successes in the population of Puglia. Bernardine was instituted by Pope Leo XIII. 1895 and blessed by Pope Pius XII. Canonized in 1947. He is patron saint of Lecce. His feast day in the liturgy is the 2nd of July.
