Bernd Rupp

Bernd Rupp ( born February 24, 1942) is a former German football player in the Bundesliga as a striker for the clubs Borussia Moenchengladbach and Werder Bremen and 1 FC Cologne total of 274 games played from 1965 to 1974, scoring 119 goals.

Career

The little center forward who had begun (near Wetzlar ) in the Hessian FC Burgsolms with football and in 1964 joined the professional football over the station SV Wiesbaden after the final of the German Amateur Championship began in 1964 his career in the Regionalliga West under coach Hennes Weisweiler at Borussia Moenchengladbach. In his first season there, he was promoted to the Bundesliga. Mönchengladbach was in the Regionalliga West with the considerable goal difference of 92:39 gates champion before Alemannia Aachen and Fortuna Dusseldorf. Rupp played the only Gladbach every 34 round matches, scoring 24 goals with the most goals. In the promotion round against SSV Reutlingen, Holstein Kiel and Wormatia Worms four more gates were added. In his first season in the German top flight football, 1965/66, he played all 34 games and scored 16 goals. End of May 1966, he was reported in the 40's list of the DFB to FIFA in the circle of offensive players for the World Cup. For inclusion in the 22er circuit but it was not enough then. After the 1966 World Cup Germany coach Helmut Schön tried out some new players. So Bernd Rupp came on 12 October 1966 his only international game of his career against Turkey. Germany won 2-0 and Rupp scored the goal to make it 2-0 in the 85th minute. In the same countries also play Gerd Müller had his international debut. The top scorer in German football, however, remained in this game without scoring.

1967 Rupp moved to Werder Bremen, where he played for two years. In 1969 he came to the first FC Cologne and played back in the Rhineland. His career ended 1972-1974 again at Borussia Moenchengladbach. In 1973 he achieved the greatest success of his career with the Gladbach. He won the final - which was received as one of the " best, playful high stehendsten and exciting in the history of this competition" in the annals - in the DFB Cup against his former club 1 FC Cologne 2-1. Bernd Rupp played a total of 274 Bundesliga matches and scored 119 goals. Rupp was twice German Vice Champion - 1968 with SV Werder Bremen and 1974 with Borussia Mönchengladbach. With the 1st FC Cologne he stood in 1970 and 1971 respectively in the DFB Cup final. Even in the two UEFA Cup finals on 10 and 23 May 1973 against Liverpool, he was for Borussia Mönchengladbach in use. His last Bundesliga Match of the fast and strong dribbling attackers on matchday 34 of the 1973/74 season, on 18 May 1974 in a 5-0 home win against FC Bayern Munich. With Allan Simonsen and Jupp Heynckes he made the triple attack of Borussia, 1974 ended up just one point behind the German champions.

In 1974 he returned to Hesse division SV Wiesbaden.
