Bernhard Buttersack

Bernhard Buttersack ( born March 16, 1858 in Bad Love cell; † 6 May in Icking in the Isar Valley 1925 ) was a German Landschafts-/Freilichtmaler of the Munich school.

Life and work

His artistic talent was already evident in early childhood and was encouraged by his parents. He studied at the Royal Art School in Stuttgart, inter alia, with Jacob Green Forest and Albert Kappis. He also was a master student of Hermann Baisch and Gustav Schönleber in Karlsruhe. The painter worked from 1884 to 1889 in Munich. Soon he was appointed Prince Regent Luitpold to royally. Professor. 1891 the artist was awarded the Gold Medal at the Munich Glass Palace. Bernhard Buttersack was a founding member of the Munich Secession.

At the end of 1889 he moved, attracted by the swampy areas of the expiring Dachau moss with its swampy trails and huge ancient trees, the delicate wind flower, the serious or cheerful clouds trains, the Föhnhimmel and the occasional Moosbauer settlements ( Lin 1998), Oberschleißheim and four years later to Haimhausen, where he had a spacious house with a painter's studio, surrounded by a large landscaped garden built. Soon he opened a private art school and became the founder of the artists' colony Haimhausen. Known of his students were Franz tree and Ludwig Bock.

Bernhard Buttersack suffered more and more difficult to define a nervous disorder. He gradually lost the joy of the beautiful surroundings and the splendid possession. He objected to the frequent easterly winds in Haimhausen who does demolition and the picturesque atmosphere.

In 1914, the painter Icking. He retired voluntarily from the life.
