Bernhard Ebbinghaus

Bernhard Ebbinghaus (* 1961 ) is a German sociologist.

Life

Ebbinghaus studied from 1981 to 1988 as a graduate sociology program at the University of Mannheim and was the 1984/85 Fulbright scholar at the New School for Social Research. After a year at the Institut Universitaire d' Etudes Européennes in Geneva, he was from 1989 to 1992 DAAD Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, where he in 1993 with the work of Labour Unity in Diversity Union. Trade Unions and Social Cleavages received his doctorate in Western Europe, 1890-1989. From 1992 to 1996 Ebbinghaus was a research assistant in sociology at the University of Mannheim and co- coordinator of the international research project on trade unions at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research. He then worked at the Max Planck Institute for Social Research before John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow was at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University in 1999/2000. In the winter semester 2001/ 02 he was a visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin, 2003/ 04, he was professor of Comparative Sociology at the University of Jena.

After his habilitation in July 2003, the Economic and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne Ebbinghaus in October 2004 was appointed professor of sociology and holds the Chair of macro sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Mannheim appointed. From November 2006 to October 2009, he was the founding director of the PhD Centre for Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences. From February 2008 to January 2011, he was Director of the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research ( MZES ).
