Bernhard Friedmann

Bernhard Friedmann ( born April 8, 1932 in Ottersweier ) is a German politician of the CDU. He was President of the European Court of Auditors.

Life

Bernhard Friedmann studied after graduating from high school in Sasbach at Achern economics at the Albert -Ludwigs- University in Freiburg im Breisgau. There he became in 1961 a member of the Catholic Student Association KDSt.V. Hohenstaufen in Cartellverband. After graduating with a degree in economics, he was in 1960, with the work of deflation in the context of national accounts at the Swiss University of Fribourg, PhD.

After the Great State Examination for the Higher Administrative Service Bernhard Friedmann initially worked at the former German Federal Post Office, later in the Federal Ministry of Postal Services (1965 Postrat, 1967 Oberpostrat 1969 Upper Post Master ). This was followed by a commitment to the industry as Managing Director of the end of 1974 because of insolvency sold abroad DATEL German Society for teleprocessing mbH, Darmstadt,. Later he became president of the department Oberpostdirektion Karlsruhe.

Policy

In 1976 he was first elected to his constituency Rastatt / Baden -Baden / Ettlingen in the German Bundestag. On 5 February 1990, he resigned from the German Bundestag, and was succeeded by Siegfried Hornung. Friedmann was, among other things Spokesman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the Budget Committee, Chairman of Audit Committee and Chairman of the Appropriations Committee for defense spending. His 1987 book published unit instead of missiles - Theses on the reunification of Germany as security concept was cause for intense debate. In the years 1990 to 2001 Friedman was the German representative before the European Court of Auditors, 1996-1999, its President. He has since retired.

Private

In 2003, Friedman became president of the Study Centre Weikersheim. Also in 2003, he called the Bernhard Friedmann Foundation in Ottersweier to life. Friedmann is also president of the business- related association European Economic Senate (EWS ) and former Chairman of Altsasbacher, an alumni association of Home Schooling Lender.

Bernhard Friedmann is married and has three children. He lives in Baden Ottersweier, where he is active as a part-time farmer and distiller.

Honors

He received the Distinguished Service Cross 1st class of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1986. In 1995, he was appointed in Breisgau Honorary Professor of European Politics at the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg. In 1997, the award of an honorary doctorate followed at the University of Sibiu (formerly Hermannstadt / Romania). Friedmann is since the beginning of 2002 an honorary citizen of his home town Ottersweier. He is also the Euro Natural Environment Prize since 1997 carrier.
