Bernhard Kamnitzer

Bernhard Kamnitzer ( born October 25, 1890 in Dirschau; † July 15, 1959 in New York City ) was a German lawyer, Judge and Senator of Finance in the Free City of Danzig ( 1928-1931 ) in the Senate Sahm III.

Life

Kamnitzer worked as a lawyer in Danzig and studied for law at the University of Gdansk and the University of Königsberg ( Prussia). He served in World War I as a soldier and in 1921 Judge. Later, he was a board member (1st Chair) in the Jewish Central Association of Danzig nationals faith. From 1924 to 1929 he was a member of Danzig People's Day, 1928 parliamentary and Senator from 1929 to 1930 full-time finance minister for the SPD.

After his prohibition Kamnitzer emigrated to Britain in 1938 and later to New York, United States. After the Second World War took Kamnitzer reparation claims of Jewish Danzig citizens against the Federal Republic of Germany, and was president of the American Association of Danzig.
