Bernhard Wachstein

Bernhard Wachstein ( born January 31, 1868 in Tluste, Galicia, † January 15, 1935 in Vienna) was a Jewish scholar ( community history, bibliography, Epitaphie ), who built the library of the Vienna Jewish community from scratch, expanded and modernized and on bibliographic field, in particular the history of Austrian Jewry, significant fundamental work delivered.

Life

Bernhard Wachstein settled after completing his Talmudic, philosophical, historical and bibliographic studies in Vienna and was since 1903 librarian (32 years, since 1919, after the death of Dr. Bernhard coin, as head of the library ) of the Jewish Community Vienna.

He also dealt with the family research that takes an outstanding role in Jewish history, and was a distinguished expert in the field.
