Bernhardus Albinus

Friedrich Bernhard Albinus ( born January 7, 1653 Dessau, † September 7, 1721 in Leiden ) was a German physician.

Life

Bernhard Albinus was born as the son of the mayor Christoph Albinus in Dessau. His great-grandfather, the Anhalt historian Peter White was the original family name " White " Latinized to " Albinus ". Bernhard Albinus received an excellent education through the tutor John Major. He attended high school in Dessau. 1668 following his high school teacher H. Alers to Bremen, who took there " illustrious high school " the rector of. At times, he lived with his teacher.

Albinus began his medical studies in Bremen. In 1675 he continued his studies in Leiden ( Holland). Albinus doctorate in 1676 in Leiden successfully with the neurological topic " De catalepsi " (see catalepsy ). In 1685 he described the mineral spring discovered in 1683 (now " Elector source " ) in Bad Freiwalde. Albinus was appointed in 1687 as Rector of the University Viadrina Frankfurt. With the death of the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm I in 1688, Albinus could again devote to his duties at the Frankfurt University Viadrina more. He developed a new method of cataract surgery. 1694 Albinus leaned down a professorship at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
