Bernie Nicholls

Bernard Irvine Nicholls (* June 24, 1961 in Haliburton, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who from 1981 to 1999 for the Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks National Hockey League played.

Career

After a regular season with the Kingston Canadians Nicholls was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL Entry Draft in 1980 in the fourth round as a 73rd. He remained an additional year in Kingston in the Ontario Hockey League.

The following year, the Kings took him in their squad, but he started the season in the American Hockey League with the New Haven Nighthawks. There he was able to convince and was brought to the end of the season in the NHL. With 32 points in the remaining 22 games, he left a lasting impression. His first full season in the NHL was then not so overwhelming as you had hoped, but Nicholls came to the following season, 1983/84 back at an excellent level. 95 points stood at the end of the season to beech and in the following two seasons, he was able to increase this value by 100 and 97 again. The obligation of Wayne Gretzky brought Nicholls once again to a higher level. In the 1988/89 season he scored 70 goals, one to today still valid team record. A year earlier he had on 1 December 1988 an outstanding game, with eight scorer points and six assists. But as center as Gretzky he did not fit into the concept of Kings and was made in the course of the following season for the winger Tony Granato and Tomas Sandstrom to the New York Rangers.

Even with the Rangers Nicholls was successful as scorer and managed to average more than a point per game scorer. But here was a former Oiler great reason for another change at the start of 1991 / 92nd The Rangers picked up Mark Messier and Nicholls had for the Edmonton Oilers.
