Bernie Taupin

Bernard John " Bernie " Taupin ( May 22nd, 1950 in Anwick, Lincolnshire ) is an English poet, songwriter and painter who is best known for his collaboration with Elton John. Taupin wrote, inter alia, the text to Elton John's hit Candle in the Wind, the best-selling single in the world.

Life

Taupin, son of a British farmer, discovered at an early age his lyrical skills. In 1967, he applied to become an ad in New Musical Express, in which a composer was looking for a copywriter. Behind the Reginald Kenneth Dwight hid composers, better known as Elton John. John and Taupin started to write lyrics for the music of Dick James. Initially attributed both titles for other musicians, but without success. The coupled- singles fell through. Also the John / Taupin song I've Been Lovin ' You Too Long, which was intended for England's participation in the Grand Prix Euro Vision Song Contest, already failed in the first round.

A year later, John and Taupin wrote the first Elton John album, Empty Sky. Despite good criticism, the album sold poorly. It was only in 1970, John and Taupin made ​​a breakthrough with their first collaborative hit Your Song. 1976 ended Taupin and Elton John their partnership and found each other again until the next decade. About the early phase of their cooperation Taupin published in 1976 a book entitled The One Who Writes the Words for Elton John (ISBN 0224012363 ).

In 2005, he co-wrote with Brian Wilson, the song What I Really Want for Christmas, released the title song for the same, in October 2005, Album.

The title " A Love That Will Never Grow Old " from the soundtrack to the film Brokeback Mountain was written by Gustavo Santaolalla together with Bernie Taupin, it is sung by Emmylou Harris. The song was awarded a Golden Globe Award and a Satellite Award, the entire soundtrack won the Oscar.

Bernie Taupin lives on a ranch in Southern California and is dedicated to the painting.
