Berolle is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Berolle is located at 760 m above sea level. M., 14 km west-north- west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The scattered village stretches along the foot of the Jura, in a promising position just above the foot of the Jura plateau.

The surface of 9.6 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Jura south slope. The communal land extending from the level of the Jura plateau in the region of the headwaters of the Veyron to the northwest over the densely wooded escarpment ( Côte de Berolle ) to the anticline of Mont Tendre. The Mont Tendre upstream southeast is the Cret de Mondisé ( 1,525 m above sea level. M. ), northwest of that follow a small valley and then the actual crest of Mont Tendre, at the southern slopes of 1,600 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Berolle is achieved. In the area of Pré de bale and Druchaux be extended Jura high grazing pastures with tall spruce trees that are either individually or in groups. From the municipality surface 1997 3 % was attributable to settlements, 61 % of forest and shrubs, 35 % to agriculture and slightly less than 1% was unproductive land.

M. ), all located close to the village, as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Berolle are Bière, bale, Mollens, Mont Richer and Le Chenit.

Population

With 295 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Berolle one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the residents 92.9 % are French, 1.9 % Italian-speaking and German-speaking 1.9 % (as of 2000). The population of Berolle amounted in 1850 to 244 residents in 1900 to 255 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 128 to 1970 inhabitants, a significantly increasing trend was recorded again since then.

Economy

Berolle is still a predominantly coined by farming village, the farming of the Jura foothills predominates, while livestock and dairy farming on the high altitudes in the Jura. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In La Verrière there were 1730 to 1750 a glassworks. Since Berolle has developed in recent decades to the residential community, many of the working population commuters.

Traffic

The municipality is situated on the main road that leads from Bière along the foot of the Jura to L' Isle. By Postbus course, which runs from L' Isle via Bière after Gimel, Berolle is connected to the public transport network.

History

Traces of a Roman settlement and graves from the Burgundian point to an early settlement of the municipality. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1235 under the name Birula. Later, the spellings Berola, Birola ( 1278 ), Byrolaz ( 1322) and Birolaz ( 1453) appeared. The name goes back to the diminutive of the Old French word berrie ( level).

Since the Middle Ages there was a small rule Berolle which belonged to the monastery Romainmôtier. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Berolle came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Aubonne.

Attractions

The present building of the parish church dates from 1397 mentioned 1834., The village fountain was a foundling, who bore the name of Pierre Pétille carved.
