Bert Jansch

Bert Jansch ( born November 3, 1943 in Glasgow, † October 5, 2011 in London) was a British folk singer and guitarist.

Life

After Jansch was initially traveled around for a while in Europe, he settled in the early 1960s in London, where he made a name for himself in the local folk scene. Anne Briggs helped him to a recording contract with Transatlantic Records, and in 1965 appeared Janschs debut album Bert Jansch, which attracted attention in folk fans across the UK. Jazz history is interesting that Jansch a not to be underestimated playing technique influence on both folk musicians like Nick Drake and Donovan as well as the founder of the groundbreaking hard rock band Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, exercised. Neil Young compared Janschs importance with reference to the acoustic guitar with the meaning of Jimi Hendrix with respect to the electric guitar. In the same year he released his second solo album, It Do not Bother Me, on which also starred John Renbourn. Jansch and Renbourn did subsequently turned into a duo together and published in 1966 Bert and John.

After Jansch had recorded a third solo album, Jack Orion ( Vanguard Records) in the same year, he founded together with Renbourn the folk-rock band Pentangle. In addition to his work with Pentangle Jansch released a variety of solo albums, even after the split of the band in 1973. In the 1980s, Jansch was at a Pentangle reunion of this, and until 2006 albums regularly came by him on the market.

Jansch has the 94th Place published by the Rolling Stone Magazine list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists (as of 1 May 2011).
