Bert Schenk

Bert Schenk ( born November 14, 1970 in Berlin ) is a retired German boxer and former world champion of the WBO middleweight.

Amateur

Bert Schenk in 1992 German champion in the light middleweight division, and in 1993 German vice-champion at middleweight.

He participated in the Junior World Championships in 1987 in Havana and retired there in the quarterfinals of the welterweight class. At the European Championships in 1993 in Bursa, he took a third place. At the World Cup tournament in 1994 in Bangkok he beat in the quarterfinals Ariel Hernández and finished second. In the same year he also won the middleweight Chemistry Cup in Halle, where he succeeded in including a victory over Russian Alexander Lebsiak.

Professional career

In February 1996, Schenk's professional debut took place. In 1997, he secured the German league title. He had for his unprofessional way of life in big trouble, his coach Dietmar Schnieber and Gerhard Dieter left him, he was finally taken care of by Torsten Schmitz.

In his 22 professional fight, he won on 30 January 1999 against Freeman Barr the vacant middleweight world champion title of the WBO. Following a title defense him the title but was denied because he could deny no fighting because of a torn Achilles tendon for a long time. After his return to the ring he got to his successor Armand Krajnc a renewed shot at the title, but lost by TKO in the sixth round.

He won his next fights and was provided in 2003 for a renewed fight for the WBO title. However, he tore himself then in training the biceps tendon in his right arm and had to cancel due to injury. Felix Sturm replaced him and won the title.

After storm had lost the belt to Oscar de la Hoya, his stable mate Schenk was made against him. Schenk was at his promoter universe because of his age now as no prospects. In the fight on March 5, 2005, he was defeated by KO then in the second round and ended his career.
