Bertachar

Berthachar ( Bertachar or Berthar, " the shining hero," * to 485, † 530 ) was after 500-510 along with his brothers Balderich and Irminfried ( Hermenefried ) King of Thuringia. A sister was Raicunda ( according to Paul the Deacon also Rathecunda, Ranicunda, Radicunda or Radegunda ) and was married to the Lombard King Wacho.

Berthachar was the son of the king Bisinus. His daughter Radegund was 531 forced after the victory of the Franks by the Frankish king Clotaire I. to marry. Her brother was killed by Chlothar since the Merovingian wanted to turn his inheritance rights. Radegunde finally went to the monastery and was later canonized.

In the research is controversial whether Berthachar was killed by his brother Herminafried in the battle for supremacy ( as it reported Gregory of Tours), or whether it is (though unsecured) and 531 died in the Frankish invasions between 528/529 killed.
